| Tumor with infiltrative margins. The tumor forms nests of polygonal and spindle cells separated by large amounts of fibrovascular stroma imparting it a lobular appearance. Epithelial nests vary in size. Tumor cell nuclei are round to oval and have finely nuclear chromatin ('salt and pepper' pattern). |
| Tumor cells are immunoreactive for calcitonin, CEA, synaptophysin, chromogranin A, and TTF-1. |
