Mucoepidermoid carcinoma
Salivary Gland
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
10 years
Tumor in parotid gland.
On low power the tumor is comprised of numerous, variably sized cystic spaces and some are filled with mucin. They are lined by different types of epithelial cells: i) large mucous cells with intracytoplasmic mucin, ii) smaler basaly located intermediate cells, often in groups or sheets and iii) polygonal epidermoid cells. For the mucin containing cell population also compare with the Alcianblue-diastase-PAS staining. Evident clear cells contain mainly glycogen (See Slide ID 1481 for Alcianblue-diastase-PAS).
