Adenoid cystic carcinoma
Salivary Gland
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
59 years
Sialadenitis since several years. Now tumor in submandibular gland.
Diffusely infiltrative tumor with many crush artifacts, which is a typical finding in this tumor type. There are areas with cribriform and also solid growth pattern. In some areas, the formation of lumina can be observed. The intervening stroma shows desmoplastic changes. In between the tumor, remnants of non-neoplastic salivary gland tissue can be seen. Perineural invasion, which is almost pathognomonic in adenoid-cystic carcinoma, can be seen around the artery in the middle of the tumor.
