Tubular adenoma of the stomach, intestinal type
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
50 years
50-year old man with two raised areas in the pyloric region of the stomach at endoscopy.
Gastric biopsies with antrum-type mucosa. Fragments exhibit clear-cut mild to moderate dysplastic changes (low grade): nuclei are hyperchromatic with moderate pleomorphism; there is mild pseudostratification of epithelial cells; note the sharp transition from normal to dysplastic epithelium. The residual mucosa shows only mild chronic inflammation. .
Helicobacter bacteria were present in further biopsies.
In the stomach the term adenoma should be reserved for raised/polypoid dysplastic lesions only.
