Lymphoblastic lymphoma of the thymus
Thymus
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
41 years
male
mediastinal Tumor (diameter 7cm)
Areas of lymphoma next to non-neoplastic thymus tissue. In contrast to the lymphocytes in the non-neoplastic thymus, the lymphoma cells do not respect the border between cortex and medulla and show a diffuse infiltration of the septae. The tumor infiltrates are highlighted by immunohistochemistry:Mib1: zonal positivity (medulla-cortex) in the non-neoplastic areas, diffuse positivity in the lymphoma CD1a: positive cortical T-lymphoblasts in the non-neoplastic areas, diffuse weak positivity in the lymphoma CK22: no epithelial cells in the lymphoma TdT: positive cells only in the cortex in non-neoplastic areas, diffuse positivity without a gradient in the lymphoma CD4 and CD8: positive cells only in the cortex in non-neoplastic areas, diffuse positivity without a gradient in the lymphoma
