Serous edema of bone marrow after myeloablative treatment.
Bone Marrow
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
60 years
60-year old male patient with AML. Day 17 after induction chemotherapy.
Representative bone marrow trephine biopsy showing extensive hypocellularity. Only few megakaryocytes and erythroid precursors are discernible. There is abundant interstitial edema present, along with marked hemosiderosis. In addition, one can appreciate reactive, non-neoplastic lymphocytes, at times forming aggregates, as well as non-neoplastic plasma cells in perivascular distribution .
