Pure red cell aplasia after ABO incompatible transplantation.
Bone Marrow
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
60 years
60-year old female patient with a T-AML who underwent an ABO incompatible allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation one month ago.
Normocellular bone marrow (30-40%) showing preserved megakaryiopoiesis and myelopoiesis. However, there is a striking decrease and almost complete absence of erythropoiesis. Note the presence of hemosiderin laden macrophages after myeloablative treatment.
