27-year old female patient suffering from sickle cell anemia. Bone marrow biopsy before scheduled hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to rule out a concurring hematologic neoplasia.
Hypocellular bone marrow with relative increase of erythropoiesis. Prominent peritrabecular fibrosis. In these areas, one can appreciate multinucleated giant cells causing bone resorption (howship’s lacunae).
After our diagnosis hyperparathyreoidism was proven
