Focal nodular hyperplasia.
Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)
41 years
41 year old male patient with a liver mass on radiologic examination.
The resection specimen shows a poorly delineated lobulated liver mass with variable steatosis. There is a prominent central scar with radiating septae that are accompanied by conspicuous ductular proliferations.
Immunostaining for glutamine synthetase can be useful in those cases not displaying the typical histologic features of FNH. In FNH a so-called ‘map-like’ positivity can be expected as opposed to the perivenular staining observed in normal liver parenchyma.
